Kanstul Modular Mouthpiece System

The Kanstul Modular Mouthpiece System uses the same familiar model numbers as the major manufacturers, and are compatible with popular modular mouthpieces.

Kanstul offers the most accurately designed and consistently produced line of precision brass instrument mouthpieces in the world. Digital scanning and CNC Machining have been combined to offer a greater selection of mouthpieces than any other single source. Digital imaging incorporates sophisticated imaging equipment to accurately measure and duplicate any existing mouthpiece. A small ruby probe glides gently over the interior of the mouthpiece providing over a thousand diameter measurements, a level of accuracy unsurpassed within the music industry. The CNC (Computer Numeric Control) lathe takes the data from the digital scan to machine a highly-finished duplicate mouthpiece that requires little or no buffing. Kanstul has created a digital library, using a highly precise digital scanning process, which includes many of the standard mouthpieces offered by the most popular makers. Modular design, with interchangeable cups and backbores, enable the performer to test and select the most desirable combinations of standard models in stock.

Guide to Flugelhorn Tapers
Confused about tapers? We used to be, too! Here's the scoop on flugelhorn mouthpiece tapers. If you are experiencing poor intonation and response, you may be using the wrong taper.

LARGE Morse taper
Commonly known as Standard Taper, the LARGE Morse taper is used by Yamaha, Getzen, Callet, Benge/King/Conn, Holton and older Kanstul 1525 fluglehorns.

SMALL Morse taper
The so-called “Bach Taper.” Bach, Courtois, newer Couesnon, Kanstul 1525 and some European flugelhorns use SMALL Morse taper.

FRENCH (straight) taper
Also known as Couesnon Taper, French taper is used by the original Couesnon, Flip Oakes "Wild Thing," Kanstul CCF 925, and original F. Besson flugelhorns.
